What is AI literacy?

AI literacy is the ability to understand how artificial intelligence works, think critically about what it creates, and make safe, smart choices as technology changes. It matters to all Canadian students because AI is rapidly changing how we live, work, and learn. Having foundational AI literacy helps everyone spot digital risks, protect their personal privacy, and separate truth from hype online.

Instead of feeling overwhelmed or left behind by the pace of change, foundational AI literacy gives students the confidence to protect their rights, join local debates, and help shape how technology is used safely in our communities.
